SEFFNER - It took Cambridge no time at all to show Citrus Park why it is the No. 2-ranked team in Class A. The Lancers dominated Citrus Park throughout and used a balanced scoring attack to win 73-27 in a District 10 semifinal.
Cambridge (23-2), which faces Seffner Christian on Saturday, took a commanding 42-7 lead into halftime and coasted the rest of the way. The Lancers got points from nine players and had four score in double figures.
"This is definitely the best team I have been on in my five years here," the Lancers' all-time leading scorer, Stephanie Grace, said. "We just have a lot of very skilled players on the team."
The Eagles (10-10) had no answer for Cambridge senior point guard Cheryl Bryant, who got into the lane at will and scored a game-high 20 points, 16 in the first half. Bryant said she knows her team still has a long way to go, though.
"Our main goal is going to state," Bryant said. "We won't be satisfied with anything else. We know what we have to do and definitely want to go."
Grace finished with 19 points, and fellow senior Mackenzie Vidonic added 15. Holly Matthews chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Brittany Nunes scored a team-high 14 points for Citrus Park.
In the first semifinal, Seffner Christian routed Bayshore Christian 65-25. Jessy Leggatt led the Crusaders with 28 points, 22 in the first half.
Seffner stymied the Faith Warriors all game with no player totaling more than six points.
The Lancers swept the Crusaders in the regular season and will be looking for their fifth consecutive district title under coach Karim Nohra.
