DOWNTOWN - In response to a growing demand for more on-campus housing, the University of Tampa is building a 448-bed residence and dining hall, set for completion in the fall of 2007.
The seven-story building will cost $38.7-million. An anonymous donor gave $5-million, and UT will finance the rest.
The new suite-style residence hall will be built northeast of the university's track, across from David A. Straz Jr. Hall on N Boulevard. It will feature a Dairy Queen, Sedona Grill and a convenience store.
Each suite will have its own bathroom and will be cable and Internet ready. The second floor will have a large community area, laundry facility and study area.
In addition, UT plans to expand the West Parking Garage by 700 spaces, increasing the capacity to 1,600 vehicles. The $5.8-million expansion is scheduled to be finished by this fall.
About 65 percent of UT students live on campus, and many commuting students have expressed their interest in moving on campus if housing were available, officials said.Intersection improvement project now complete

HCC donated land for the $893,000 project.
The completed intersection includes landscaping, irrigation, sidewalks and additional lighting.
