Published February 5, 2006
WHEN/WHERE: 2 p.m., Carnesecca Arena.
TV/RADIO: Catch 47; 570 and 910-AM.
RECORDS: USF 15-7, 5-4; St. John's 17-4, 7-3.
COACHES: USF - Jose Fernandez (74-91, sixth season); St. John's - Kim Barnes Arico (55-52, fourth season; 149-124, 10th season overall).
NOTABLE: The two programs are on similar paths, having reached the second round of the NIT last season and hoping for a trip to the NCAA Tournament next month. St. John's is the overachiever of the Big East, with three of its losses coming at Rutgers, at UConn and against Duke. USF, picked to finish ninth in the coaches' preseason poll, is in a three-way tie for fifth, and a win here would be its third against a ranked team this season, following victories against DePaul and at Notre Dame. The Red Storm's top two scorers, juniors Angela Clark and Kia Wright, were high school teammates in Copiague, N.Y. USF junior forward Jessica Dickson's 23.4 points per game still leads the nation, and junior center Nalini Miller is the only other Bulls player scoring in double figures (10.4).
