Advisories still in place for bacteria-contaminated beaches
By Times Staff Writer
Published February 9, 2006
Officials continued water advisories Thursday for Robert J. Strickland Beach, also known as Hudson Beach, and the Energy and Marine Center in Port Richey after finding high levels of enteric bacteria in the water.
Advisories were lifted for Brasher Park Beach in Port Richey and Robert K. Rees Park Beach in New Port Richey. The bacteria are an indication of fecal pollution, which could come from stormwater runoff, animal waste or sewage, the Pasco County Health Department said. Officials say the water at the beaches poses "a potential health risk to the bathing public."
