Published February 10, 2006

WHEN: Today and Saturday.

WHERE: South Florida Community College, 600 West College Drive, Avon Park.

COST: $6 per session. SCHEDULE: Today - Weigh-ins, 10 a.m.; preliminaries, wrestlebacks (first and second rounds), noon. Saturday - Weigh-ins, 8 a.m.; semifinals, 10; wrestlebacks (third and fourth rounds), 12:30; consolation finals, 6; finals, 7:30. DIRECTIONS: Take I-75 South. Merge onto Florida Turnpike South via Exit 328 on the left toward Orlando. Go 19 miles. Merge onto US 27 South via Exit 289 toward SR 19/Taveres/Cleremont. Go 85 miles. Turn left onto West College Drive. Go a half-mile. THE SCOOP: Top four in each class advance to state.

ABOUT CITRUS: The 'Canes won the district title and could win this, too. They qualified 11: Craig Barker (103 pounds), Bryant Fisher (112), Josh Rutherford (130), Darrell Prior (135), Tim Musto (140), James Freeman (145), Mike Musto (152), Josh Walter (171), Tommy Newman (189), Ryan Loggins (215) and Dallas Evans (275). Fisher and Musto could win titles with Newman and Walter having outside chances.

ABOUT CRYSTAL RIVER: Coach Craig Frederick said his team, which qualified eight, is peaking at the right time. The Pirates probably won't repeat last season's third-place finish, but several have a good chance to move on, including Brandon Jones (112), Corey Neal (125) and Joe Bertine (145). John Koney (119), Ayinde Mathews (130), Joe Ramos (135), Dustin Panaccione (140) and Cordero McKinnon (heavyweight) also have a chance, Frederick said.

ABOUT LECANTO: Dustin Whitelaw (160) is 19-2 and finished second at the district meet. Robert Ebaugh (125) and Matt Navarro (152) qualified by finishing fourth. "We'd like to advance to state, but I don't know if that is going to happen," coach Dick Slack said. "It's been a rebuilding year. We don't have any juniors on our squad."
