Notebook: Stormwater drainage topic of Thursday meeting

YBOR CITY - The Ybor City Development Corp. and city's stormwater department will host a public meeting to discuss the stormwater pipe installation along 15th Street, between Palm Avenue and Fifth Avenue. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. Thursday at Rock-N-Sports Bar & Grille, 1811 N 15th St. in Ybor City.

The project is designed to alleviate flooding problems in the historic district and will begin in May. For information, call 274-7936.

Representative from DOT to address Ybor chamber

HISTORIC YBOR CITY - Join the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce for its monthly luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Columbia Restaurant, 2117 E Seventh Ave.

Donald J. Skelton, from the Florida Department of Transportation, will be the guest speaker.

Tickets are $18 for chamber members and $22 for guests at the door. For information, call 248-3712, ext. 22 or 24.

Lemon Street extension gets official opening

SOUTH WEST SHORE - Mayor Pam Iorio this week joined local business and community leaders to open the extension of Lemon Street from Occident Street to West Shore Boulevard.

The one-way extension will give motorists direct access to Lemon from Interstate 275 north. It was intended to reduce traffic on West Shore and Cypress Street.

The city's transportation division managed the project, which began in September. Funding for the $343,217 project came from West Shore district impact fees.

Garden club's V-Day gala is fundraiser

PALMA CEIA PARK - The Tampa Garden Club is hosting a Valentine's Day gala from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at 2629 Bayshore Blvd.

The event is part of the club's 14th annual fundraiser dedicated to preserving green space on Bayshore Boulevard and maintaining the Garden Center's building.

The event will include food and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $50. Call 251-5059 for information.

Rosemary Tyler exhibit at Gold Dragon Gallery

VIRGINIA PARK - Artist Rosemary Tyler, known as ROMA, will present her work at Gold Dragon Gallery's Artists Resource Center, 3508 S Manhattan Ave.

The opening reception and artist meeting is from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 17. Guitarist Chuck Hill will perform.

Reservations must be made by Tuesday. Call 832-2755. The exhibit runs through March 24.

Priest's 30th anniversary of ordination celebrated

OLD HYDE PARK - St. John's Episcopal Church celebrated Father Douglas E. Remer's 30th anniversary of his ordination to the Sacred Order of Priests with a reception in the parish hall Feb. 5.

Remer, who joined the church in 2003, attended the General Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York and graduated with honors in 1975.

After graduating, Remer served in various capacities with the church. He started as a deacon in Utica, N.Y., then was appointed an associate rector in Raleigh, N.C. He was later appointed as rector in Tarboro, N.C.

Remer is involved in community and diocesan activities, including serving as chairman of the board of trustees for St. John's Parish Day School. He is married and has adult children.
