Office, warehouse space may become apartments

COURIER CITY - Renters worried about the increasing number of apartments converting to condominiums, take heart. Post Properties plans to build more rental units.

Post recently bought 64,250 square feet of office and warehouse space at Platt Street and Rome Avenue. The company expects to ask the City Council to rezone the property from industrial to residential use at a hearing April 27. If approved, the project would expand Post Hyde Park, a 389-unit apartment community at Fremont and Swann Avenue.

The company plans to demolish six existing units and add 84 apartments, said Anthony Everett, Post's director of Florida investments.

"Post feels that long-term, they've got a wonderful rental property there," Everett said. "The plan is to keep it a rental property long-term."

Pending the council's approval, construction could begin by the end of the year and would take about a year, Everett said.

Everett said the company plans to schedule meetings with neighbors to discuss the proposal.
