SAFETY HARBOR - More than 10,000 people are expected to converge on the Safety Harbor Marina on Sunday for a taste of Italy.

The third annual San Gennaro Festa will feature Italian foods in an old-fashioned street fair setting. Highlights include meatball- and cannoli-eating contests, street musicians and children's games. This year's event also will feature live entertainment starring Arena Twins and John and Mary K. Wilson.

Local Italian restaurants will sell an array of Italian festival foods. Local craftsmen also will be on hand to show and sell their wares. People can watch demonstrations on Venetian glass blowing and Italian potterymaking.

The event was started by the nonprofit group Italian-American Women of Today, which was founded in 1993 with the mission of presenting a positive image of Italian-Americans and contributing to local charities.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the group's scholarship fund and St. Joseph's Children's Cancer Center.

Media sponsors include the St. Petersburg Times, Bright House and radio station 101.5 the Point. Proceeds will benefit the LIADO Scholarship Fund and St. Joseph's Children's Cancer Research Center.
