CLASS 3A-2 WHERE: East Lake.
OUTLOOK: Osceola and Durant are the favorites, but Countryside, East Lake and Palm Harbor U. should contend. The Cougars won their district last week under new coach Greg Chapman and had six individual champions, including Kent Costell, a 119-pounder who placed third at state last season. PHU's strongest wrestler is Franklin Gomez, who is 41-1.
CLASS 2A-3 WHERE: Punta Gorda Charlotte.
OUTLOOK: The feel-good story has been Northeast coach Bill Dudley, who is retiring after 33 seasons at his alma mater. Dudley has won the city title for the first time and his third district title. To win here, Dudley must rely on his seven district champions, especially Josh Aarons (125 pounds), A.J. Yingling (145) and Dylan Mundella (275). Dixie Hollins' best chance for a champion is Travis Williams, who placed third at state last season.
CLASS A-3 WHERE: Naples Golden Gate.
OUTLOOK: Clearwater Central Catholic won its first district title in nearly two decades, relying on gritty performances from Tony Scalmogna (135) and Alex Page (171). Both came back from injuries to win titles. In all, the Marauders had four district champs and sent 10 to regions. St. Petersburg Catholic's top wrestler is Wes Miller, who won a district title at 160.
