It's no gamble on him

Kenny Rogers will "Just Drop In" to Silver Springs to perform his seemingly endless string of hits in concert beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Rogers, whose big hit The Gambler has prompted nearly everyone to mutter at some point that "You've got to know when to hold 'em; know when to fold 'em," has been a country and pop music star since the late 1960s.
With Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, their first big hit was the psychedelic I Just Dropped In To See What Condition What Condition Was In. Others were the Vietnam War lament Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town and Reuben James.
Rogers then launched a solo career that has expanded his music to roles in television movies, such as The Gambler (which had four followups to the original film), and produced a lengthy string of hits. Many of them are romantic ballads, such as Islands In The Stream with Dolly Parton, You Decorated My Life and Lady.
And he's still recording hit records and starring in sold out tours. He has a new single I Can't Unlove You, which is getting play on CMT and he co-starred with close friend Lionel Richie recently on CMT's Crossroads concert series.
"I really, really love what I'm doing," Rogers, 67, says on his Web site. "People survive longer if they love what they're doing. Because you just don't quit."
For the concert, guests can bring their own folding chairs or blankets or rent a chair. Except for bottled water, no outside food or coolers may be brought in. There will be free parking and shuttle bus service from Booster Stadium starting at 9 a.m.
The concert is included in the regular admission price, which is $32.99 for adults, $23.99 for children age 3 to 10; $29.99 for seniors 55 and over and children 2 and under admitted free. Call (352) 236-2121 or visit the Web site at www.silversprings.com
