Published February 13, 2006

DUETTE - A 16-year-old girl was found fatally shot off a rural state road in southwest Florida, authorities said.

Amber Woods of Hardee County had been shot once in the back of the neck, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Her body was found early Saturday about 3 miles west of the Hardee County line, shortly after family members reported her missing.

A relative identified the teen, who had been dead for up to 12 hours, at the scene, sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said.

Woods had been living with her aunt and uncle and had spent Friday night playing cards until about midnight, her uncle Vernon Richardson told the Bradenton Herald .
