Beached dolphin found at Lassing Park

A city worker speculated the dolphin had been dead for over a day.

Joggers at Lassing Park came across a dolphin early today that had beached itself near 18th Avenue SE and Beach Drive SE. City worker Brad Strott speculated it had been dead for over a day. Strott said there were no obvious signs of foul play, and it was suspected that either old age, or Red Tide, may have contributed to its death.

Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission loaded the dead dolphin onto a flatbed and planned to take it back to their office on 54th Avenue S for a necropsy to determine its cause of death.
