A family fame found

No electricity, no indoor toilet, no problem: Rural Kentucky's John Christopher Knight and Family are the ultimate "unplugged" experience, a singin' and pickin' clan that had never seen an actual CD until a few months ago. Currently scooting up the Americana charts, the Knights' debut album, Way Down Inside, is the sound of a "self- sufficient" family that learned music via the oral tradition. Never mind that Knight, who was discovered while camping out in Georgia, now has a Web site and an e-mail address - hey, that's fame for you. This remains American music in its rawest, truest form.

John Christopher Knight and Family perform at 8 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 N MacInnes Place, Tampa. $20. (813) 229-7827, (813) 287-8844 or (727) 898-2100.
