Leon Botstein, pictured at right, is one of the great polymaths of our time. President of Bard College in New York. Author of books on education, music, history and culture. Editor of the Musical Quarterly. Music director of the American Symphony Orchestra. And since 2003, Botstein has been music director of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, now on a 20-city U.S. tour that has a performance at 8 p.m. Monday at Van Wezel Hall in Sarasota.
