Day 1 tough on Cougars

By BOB PUTNAM, Times Staff Writer
Published February 17, 2006

Because of the numbers, or lack thereof, Countryside is in jeopardy of not finishing in the top three at state for the first time in four seasons.

In fact, the Cougars will have trouble finishing as the county's best team.

Countryside, which finished second during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons and was third last season, scored 6.5 points and was 21st after the first day of wrestling at the

Lakeland Center.

The Cougars sent only two wrestlers to state, Kent Costell (119 pounds) and Brandon Lopez (130), who both won in the first round.

The county's top team after the first day was Northeast, which is 11th. Josh Aarons (125), A.J. Yingling (145), Bob Bedard (171) and Dylan Mundella (275) all won for the Vikings.
