Women: FSU moves closer to an NCAA bid

TALLAHASSEE - Holly Johnson had 20 points, and Alicia Gladden scored 10 of her 14 during a second-half run that broke the game open and lifted Florida State to a 68-60 win over Miami on Friday night.

Ganiyat Adeduntan added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Seminoles (16-8, 7-4 ACC), who boosted their NCAA Tournament hopes with the season sweep and their fifth win overall in six games. Tamara James had 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Hurricanes (15-10, 5-7), who have lost three in a row.

FSU scored 27 on 25 Miami turnovers.

Gladden, who added 11 rebounds, hit two free throws to kick off a 19-6 second-half run and capped it with a jumper that put FSU up 58-46 with 5:11 left. The Seminoles held the Hurricanes without a field goal for a nearly six-minute stretch in the half.

Miami pulled within 61-56 on Renee Taylor's floater in the lane with 57 seconds left, but the Seminoles hit 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to put it away.

James had 14 points and four steals in the first half as the Hurricanes took a 32-30 lead.

UAB 74, UCF 65: The visiting Blazers (14-10, 7-6 C-USA) erased a 12-point deficit with a 30-9 run.

NO. 23 TEMPLE 59, SAINT JOSEPH'S 53: Candice Dupree scored 20 and tied a career high with 17 rebounds to lead the host Owls (19-6, 10-3 Atlantic 10). Temple has won five of six to move into sole possession of third place.
