Renaissance romance

The Bay Area Renaissance Festival kicks off a seven-weekend run Saturday near the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa. The theme for opening weekend is "Chocolate and Romance." In true Renaissance fest style, however, one of the events is something called a "fudge fling." Hmmm.

New attractions this year include a daily six-course feast with entertainment. Reservations are required.

Of course, there's lots of other food and fun available. Here, Ian Smith , who played a member of his majesty's guard at the 2003 festival, enjoys a turkey leg.

The replica 16th century village is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at Fowler Avenue and N 46th Street, Tampa. Tickets are $12.95 advance or $15.95 at the gate; $12.95 seniors; $4.95 children advance, $7.95 gate; ages 4 and younger admitted free. (813) 983-0111, toll-free 1-800-601-4848 or www.renaissancefest.com.
