Developer asked to revise proposal

By Times Staff Writer
Published February 24, 2006

Tampa City Council on Thursday sent a developer who wants to build a residential and retail complex in the Channel District back to the drawing board.

Council members said the project, which would put two 30-story towers with 250 condominiums on Channelside Drive at the Beneficial Bridge leading to heavily populated Harbour Island, would cause too many traffic problems.

"We will ... choke off Harbour Island if we allow this," said council member John Dingfelder. "There's got to be a better plan."

Developer Brooks Byrd is scheduled to come back to the City Council May 11 at 6 p.m. with a revised proposal.
