2 workers die in fall from high-rise project

Associated Press
Published March 2, 2006

JACKSONVILLE - Two workers died and another was injured Wednesday when a construction platform on a high-rise condominium project collapsed.

The men fell from the 22nd floor of the San Marco Place downtown project, said Bennie Seth, a spokeswoman with Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.

Ken Jefferson, a Jacksonville sheriff's spokesman, said one man was dead at the scene and the other died at the Shands Jacksonville hospital.

Another man fell four stories before being stopped by a safety device. He received minor injuries.

The cause of the collapse hadn't been determined. The condominium project has been under construction for about a year.
