The 19-acre site lies on the northwest corner of Interstate 4 and McIntosh Road. It was zoned in 1998 as a semitractor sales lot, but that never happened, said Michael Horner, a certified planner.
After the 1998 plans stalled, Horner erected two agricultural metal buildings on the site, a barn for hay and a storage building, according to residents who spoke against the petition at a February zoning hearing.
The buildings sit closer to Muck Pond Road than codes allow and were built without a permit. Fulwood wants to keep the buildings.
Sixty-six neighbors signed a petition opposing the revised plan for the property due to bright lights and the metal buildings. The case goes to the County Commission on April 11. (PETITION 06-0124)

PLANT CITY: Some residents lined up to oppose a 40-unit housing development at a February zoning hearing. Property owner Thomas Miller wants to rezone 45 acres on the southeast quadrant of Stafford Road and Bethlehem Road from agricultural to a planned development.
The house lots would range from 30,000 square feet to more than an acre. But neighbors objected because most homes would take up less than 1 acre, packing too many homes into the area. They also opposed the jigsaw cut of the northern boundary.
The case goes to the County Commission March 7. (PETITION 05-2118)

RIVERVIEW: Simmons Village, where 376 houses were to spring up east of Interstate 75, is already no more.
The development never broke ground.
E.G. Simmons Farms wanted to build the homes, west of Simmons Loop and south of Mary Lou Drive, on a property shaped a little bit like the state of Texas. The developer sought to rezone the agricultural property to a planned development.
Attorney Keith Bricklemeyer, who represents George Simmons, was traveling and unavailable for comment. (PETITION 06-0204) CORRECTION: The County Commission is scheduled to hear petitions 06-0120, 06-0121 and 06-0098 on April 11. Last week's column listed another date and an incorrect petition number.
