ABOUT EASTSIDE: Any conversation about the best programs in Florida without a state title would have to include the Rams. A perennial power in the Gainesville area, Eastside is making its first championship game appearance but has been to the final four five times , three in the past seven years. Coach Herman "Pop" Williams, 232-80 in nine seasons, deserves much of the credit for Eastside's success. Much like Chamberlain, the Rams aren't blessed with a great deal of height but they make up for it with great athleticism. Four Eastside players score in double figures, the leader being 6-foot-3 sophomore guard Donte Anderson, who averages 15.1 points. In the semifinals, the Rams, who have won eight straight, shut down highly regarded Winter Park Lake Howell with surprising ease, 65-46. They forced 23 Silver Hawk turnovers and limited them to 34 percent shooting. What makes the victory all the more impressive is both Lake Howell starting guards are committed to major college programs.
