Men: Blazers shock Memphis

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Marvett McDonald had 17 points and UAB held No. 3 Memphis scoreless for more than eight minutes down the stretch in an 80-74 upset on Thursday night.

McDonald's jumper gave the Blazers a five-point lead with 2:47 left, and UAB made six consecutive free throws in the final 33 seconds to snap the Tigers' 15-game winning streak.

Memphis (26-3, 12-1) could have secured the C-USA regular-season title outright.

NO. 25 MICH. ST. 74, WIS. 65: Paul Davis had 27 points and nine rebounds for the host Spartans (20-9, 8-7 Big Ten), who reached 20 wins for the seventh time in nine years. Alando Tucker scored 23 for the Badgers (19-9, 9-6).

NO. 14 WASH. 91, ARIZ. ST. 64: Mike Jensen made four 3-pointers and scored 14 for the visiting Huskies (23-5, 12-5 Pac-10). Brandon Roy was one of four Washington players with 13 points, ending his string of nine games of at least 20. Roy fell one free throw shy of the Washington record of 33 straight when he missed his first attempt.

NO. 24 NEVADA 83, SAN JOSE ST. 60: Nick Fazekas had 20 points and 12 rebounds and the host Wolf Pack (23-5, 12-4) clinched the WAC title.

Big East

DePAUL 108, SYRACUSE 69: Karron Clarke scored a season-high 27 for the host Blue Demons (12-14, 5-10 Big East), who need a win against Notre Dame on Saturday and some help to qualify for the conference tournament. The Orange (19-10, 7-8) badly needed a win to improve its NCAA Tournament chances.


STETSON 54, FAU 44: Anthony Register scored 20 as the Hatters won in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament quarterfinals in Johnson City, Tenn. Stetson has won 12 of its past 13 games after starting 2-16.


ARIZONA 66, WASH. ST. 61: Marcus Williams scored 17 and the host Wildcats (18-10, 11-6 Pac-10) bolstered their case for a 22nd straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
