The mayor is elected citywide and serves a three-year term. The mayor's annual salary is $7,800.
JOHN "J.D." HADSALL
AGE: 54
BACKGROUND: A native of Iowa, Hadsall moved to Treasure Island in 1993. He is a lawyer who conducted background checks for the federal government on potential employees and for agencies charged with protecting the rights of neglected children. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law. An Army veteran, he worked in private practice in Pensacola, Fort Myers and Sarasota and also for a criminal defense firm in Miami. Hadsall has served as a volunteer attorney for low-income clients in Pinellas County and as a hearing officer for the Pinellas County Housing Authority. In 2004, Hadsall served as chairman of the former Charter Review Commission for the city. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2003 and for the District 2 commission seat in 2000 and 2002. He lives on the Isle of Palms and has one stepson.

MARY MALOOF
AGE: 67
BACKGROUND: Born in Illinois, Maloof moved to Florida in 1964 and to Treasure Island in 1980. She served three terms as a commissioner for District 3 before being elected mayor in 2003. She served as a member of the executive committee of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and as chairwoman of the Agency on Bay Management. Maloof was a partner in a clothing design and manufacturing business before retiring in 1980. She lives on Paradise Island with her husband, Eddie. They have seven children and stepchildren and five grandchildren. She is a member of the Treasure Island Islettes, the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce and the Gulf Beaches Rotary Club, where she served as president. Maloof studied organizational studies at Eckerd College, focusing on public leadership.

COMMISSIONER
THE JOB
Commissioners are elected from within their districts and serve two-year terms. Commissioners are paid $5,400 a year.
ALAN BILDZ
AGE: 41
BACKGROUND: Originally from Indiana, Bildz moved to Treasure Island 10 years ago from Pennsylvania. He has served as the District 4 commissioner for the past two years. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2000. Bildz is a member of the Beach Stewardship Committee and the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce and is a former board member of the Sunset Beach Civic Association. He has worked as a plumber since 2000. Before moving to Pinellas County, he worked in a meat factory and as a house painter. He and his wife, Patricia, live on Sunset Beach.

DONALD V. CALLAHAN
AGE: 77
BACKGROUND: A native of Long Island, N.Y., he has lived in Treasure Island since 1972, when he retired as a college philosophy professor. A former University of Tampa professor, he also traveled extensively in South and Central America and Mexico. He is an entrepreneur who has spent the past 12 years promoting a solar-triggered air compressor as an alternative to the internal combustion engine. He has run unsuccessfully for commissioner four times and for mayor once and was a write-in candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives.
