THUMBS UP/
Florida State. Wednesday's upset of No. 1 Duke was the signature win this men's basketball program desperately needed.
THUMBS DOWNThe World Baseball Classic. You need a scorecard just to keep track of all the players who've dropped out.
OTHER VOICES"Just thought you should know I got 14 out of 15 on the four-minute sample Wonderlic test Thursday morning. Got a little nervous and wrote down the wrong answer even after figuring out the correct one on one question. And in spite of that strong performance, I still think Vince Young should be drafted ahead of me on April 29. I have a tendency to overthrow my favorite receiver. (Frankly, he's a little slow getting out of his cuts. And he's also 10.) And I don't make as much happen outside the pocket as I did in, oh, say, 1972.
"The hysteria over reports that the Texas quarterback scored a 6 (awful) followed by a 16 (still bad but not atypical) on the retake on the 50-question quiz at the NFL combine is just a bit much. Maybe the most overrated big story of 2006 and we've had plenty already. Like the risk of injury to major-league players competing for a few innings at the World Baseball Classic. Like the conspiracy to give the Super Bowl to Pittsburgh (lousy officiating, yes; conspiracy, no). Like anything connected with the Olympic Games.
"Young performed poorly on a reading comprehension quiz. Big deal. Here's where he didn't perform poorly when he had to read. He had to read the scoreboard at the Rose Bowl that said 4th Down, 5 Yards To Go, 19 Seconds to Play."

BY THE NUMBERS1: Night per year, according to ESPN the Magazine, Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko is given an "allowance" to sleep with another woman by his wife, former Russian pop star Masha Lopatova.
$6.50: Cost on eBay of the 1975 Slippery Rock State College football media guide (talk about the perfect gift for the total loser in your life).
40-17: Free-throw attempts advantage for Florida State vs. Duke (hmm, ya think the officials were making up for their boo-boo in Durham?)
FINAL THOUGHTSHey, another pro just pulled out of the World Baseball Classic. Anybody with Italian roots got a glove?
