Police arrest man outside woman's window, hiding crowbar in pants

TAMPA - A 48-year-old Tampa man found outside a woman's home with a crowbar in his pants was arrested Monday, police said.

Police charged Calvin Hawkins of 3001 N Thelma St. with burglary of a dwelling and possession of burglary tools.

Luz Ochoa, 22, told police someone knocked on her front door just before 3 p.m., but she did not recognize the man and didn't open the door. Minutes later, Ochoa said, she heard knocking at a window. The same man was trying to force it open. Ochoa left the home and called police.

When officers arrived, Hawkins was standing at the window and concealing a crowbar in his pants, police said. Fresh pry marks marred the windowsill.

Hawkins was being held Tuesday at the Orient Road Jail in lieu of $9,500 bail. Jail records show Hawkins was arrested in 2002 on the same charges.
