City sets recreation open house

TREASURE ISLAND - The Treasure Island Recreation Department will host an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at its Treasure Bay Golf and Tennis facility, 10315 Paradise Blvd. Activities will include free golf and tennis clinics for adults and juniors; free play on the nine-hole, par 3 golf course; music; face painting; bicycle registrations, child identification, pet identification by the Police Department; police vehicle and firetruck display; food and beverage concessions; and much more. Treasure Island
The fourth annual St. Patrick's Day Golf and Tennis Social will be at 10 a.m. March 18 at the Treasure Bay Golf and Tennis facility, 10315 Paradise Blvd. The cost is $12 per person and includes the tennis mixer or golf scramble and barbecue. The Downtown Treasure Island open air market will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through the end of May at the 107th Avenue Clock Tower area, which will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event. The market is hosted by the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce and offers more than 40 vendors, offering crafts, art, produce and baked goods. Tommy G. and the High Seas will provide musical entertainment. The market will close for the summer with a free three-day Memorial Day weekend beach party, featuring the Tampa Bay Symphony at Sun, Sand and Symphony on May 27. The Treasure Island Action Club will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. today at the Treasure Island Yacht Club. Anyone 55 or older living on Treasure Island at least four months a year is invited to join. For information, call club president John Barr at 367-4254.
Belleair Beach
A candidates forum will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the Belleair Beach City Hall, 444 Causeway Blvd. Written questions for the candidates will be taken from the audience between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Representatives from the League of Women Voters will select the questions. The forum will begin at 7 p.m., moderated by Judy McSwine of the League of Women Voters. For information, call 595-4646.
Gulfport
The Pink Flamingo Home Tour will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 25. The tour begins at the Gulfport Historical Museum, 5301 28th Ave. S. Parking is available at the museum. During the event, many restaurants and pubs in the city will offer "Pink Flamingo" specials, and shops, galleries and artisan studios will offer "Pink Flamingo" discounts. Gulfport's historic trolley will run a continuous loop around the featured home locations. The cost of the trolley tour is $10 per person. Indian Rocks Beach
Applications are available for the 29th annual Beauty and the Beach Arts and Crafts Show from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., April 1, in Kolb Park. Activities will include a volleyball tournament on the beach, a "Miss Beauty & the Beach" contest, bake sale, fine arts and crafts, children's activities, a library book sale and a pancake breakfast served in the Beach Art Center. Indian Shores
Residents interested in serving as members or alternates on town committees after the March election, are asked to apply to the town clerk. Town committees include Administrative and Finance; Planning, Zoning and Building; Public Services; and Board of Adjustment and Appeals. Committees usually meet about once a month on Tuesday afternoons, except the BAA, which meets only when needed. Town Hall is at 19305 Gulf Blvd. For information, call 595-4020.

Madeira Beach
A garage sale to benefit Kiwanis Charity will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m March 18 in the Winn-Dixie parking lot, 200 Municipal Drive. Space for the public to sell treasures costs $20. Redington Beach
Three scholarships will be awarded by the Redington Beach Property Owners Association Inc. to graduating seniors who live in the city. Scholarship amounts are $1,500, $1,000 and $500. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay titled "How I think volunteering makes a difference." The deadline for submitting the essay is April 10. St. Pete Beach
Island Festival VI, promoting cultural activities and organizations of the south Gulf Beaches, will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Pass-a-Grille Park. Artists must either live in the south gulf beaches or be a member of the Treasure Island Art Guild or Suntan Art Center to participate. The event will feature exhibitors, musicians, theater presentations, historical tours and authors. For information, call 367-3818.

South Pasadena
An Artspring Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25 in Duryea Park on Sunset Drive. The South Pasadena Community Band will perform at 11 a.m. with a Barbershop Quartet performing at noon and a DJ providing music from 1 to 3 p.m. Other activities include a dog agility demonstration and costume contest with judging at 1:30 p.m. Residents are invited to bring their dogs to try the agility equipment. The event will also include a Corvette show, fire and police vehicles and a moonwalk. Food and soft drinks will be sold. Parking will be available at Kmart with a free shuttle bus to the park. There also will be an art show at South Pasadena City Hall, 7047 Sunset Drive S, with gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 24, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25 and noon to 2:30 p.m. March 26.
