Notebook: Victorian theme to dress up lunchtime

DOWNTOWN - Pack a lunch and bring a blanket to the Henry B. Plant Museum's Picnic in the Park from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Plant Park, 401 W Kennedy Blvd.
The Victorian-themed event will feature a barbershop quartet, games such as horseshoes, badminton and checkers, and models clad in Victorian dress.
The event coincides with $1 day at the museum, which hosts the new exhibit: Trivial Pursuits of the 1893 Chicago World Fair. Free lemonade and ice cream will be served.
Give colors a spin at Kaleidoscope Festival
BALLAST POINT - Ballast Point Elementary hosts a Kaleidoscope Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 2802 W Ballast Point Blvd.
The free event features music, art and two didgeridoo shows. Attendees can learn how to play the Australian wind instrument after the festival. For information, visit www.kaleidoscopefestival.com/event.htm
Artist reception opens photographer's exhibit
YBOR CITY - Vanishing Heritage, a new photography exhibit by Carlton Ward Jr., opens today with a meet the artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hoffman Porges Gallery, 1907 E Seventh Ave.
The exhibit will run through April 29. Ward's photographs capture the natural landscape of Florida, as well as ranchlands and Florida's gulf coast fishing communities.
Proceeds from sales will help support conservation efforts of the Legacy Institute for Nature & Culture. For information or to RSVP to tonight's reception, call 247-2000.
Women's Healthcare Symposium is Saturday
DOWNTOWN - The first South Tampa Women's Healthcare Symposium begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Tampa Convention Center.
Hosts Dr. Steven L. Maskin and the Cornea and Eye Surface Center hope the event educates women of all ages about their health.
Participants will learn from local physicians about the latest developments and technology pertaining to a wide range of women's health issues.
Symposium topics include skin and breast cancer, fertility, osteoporosis, menopause and migraine headaches. Bobbie Shay Lee, an eight-year breast cancer survivor, will be the keynote speaker.
Health screenings for cholesterol level, body fat, blood pressure and range of motion will be offered.

Las Damas de Arte plans annual fundraiser
DOWNTOWN - Las Damas de Arte holds its annual fundraising art exhibit from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the University of Tampa Scarfone/Hartley Gallery.
The exhibition will feature the work of more than 50 women artists and include paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics and sculpture. All artwork is for sale.
Proceeds will benefit Hillsborough Community College, the University of South Florida and University of Tampa.
Admission for Sunday's event is $30 in advance, $40 at the door. The exhibition, which runs through March 30, is free during normal gallery hours. The gallery is at 310 N Boulevard in RK Bailey Art Studios.
Need a trinket? Try annual Attic Fanatic sale
OLD SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Trinkets, treasures and crafts will be for sale at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church's annual Attic Fanatic Sale.
The sale begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at 2510 E Hanna Ave. Refreshments will be served in the morning followed by a spaghetti dinner from noon to 6 p.m. The dinner costs $4.50 for adults.
