BAYSHORE GARDENS - Mayor Pam Iorio and community leaders on Tuesday kicked off construction of a project to reduce flooding along Bayshore Boulevard and in the Coachman Avenue area.
The $2-million project will upgrade the Bayshore Pump Station and relocate a pipeline near Stovall Street and Bayshore Boulevard.
The upgrade, which will provide larger pumps, is designed to stop wastewater from overflowing on Bayshore.
All lanes of Bayshore will remain open during construction, except for two days when crews install the wastewater pipeline under the southbound lanes.
The pipeline relocation is set to be finished in July, followed by the pump station in September.
For information, call Henry Dorzback, the city's Wastewater Department chief engineer, at (813) 274-8202.
New restaurant planned for tenuous locationOSCAWANA - Jilly Jo's lasted about four months. And its predecessor at 223 S Howard Ave., Mary Z Tampania Cafe, had about the same tenure.
Regardless, it looks like another restaurant is planned for the prime restaurant space at Howard and Platt Street. Kathy Wiley, who ran Jilly Jo's and retained the lease, has applied for zoning to sell beer and wine on the property.
When she closed Jilly Jo's shortly after Thanksgiving, Wiley said she planned to sublet to another restaurant. The petition will be heard at 10 a.m. Thursday at City Hall, 315 E Kennedy Blvd. Jilly Jo's was wet zoned, but that usage has since expired.
