Warhawks rally too late

SEMINOLE - Seminole's seventh-inning rally came up two runs short against Sarasota Riverview as the Warhawks lost 4-2 Monday.

Sarasota starter Jonathan Schneider (4-0) went the distance, striking out four while allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks.

The right-hander threw only 100 pitches (68 strikes), 18 coming in the last inning.

The Warhawks (8-4) aggressively went after Schneider's repertoire of fastballs and sliders, often swinging at the first pitch. It backfired most of the game until Seminole outfielders Andrew Blazuk (2-for-3) and Kyle Brunette put together consecutive singles to start the seventh.

After Schneider retired Robbie Searage, Blazuk and Brunette advanced on a wild pitch to Chris Clinton. Blazuk then scored on Clinton's fielder's choice for the Warhawks' first run.

Seminole shortstop Chris Calhoon reached base safely on third baseman Brandon Parker's error, which allowed Clinton to score Seminole's second run. But the Warhawks' rally fizzled when Schneider settled down and got Billy Falasco to fly out to right.

The Rams (8-3) scored two runs in the third off Warhawks starter Searage. Sarasota added two runs in the top of the seventh off relievers Craig Smith and Graham Gibson.

Searage(1-2) pitched 31/3 innings, striking out four and giving up three hits and four walks.
