Premiering tonight

There was a cell phone commercial about a 20-something guy who has a real job while his buddies are still slackers, stuck between college and the real world. While he's in a business meeting, his crazy friends are sending him camera-phone pictures of them stuffing cookies into their mouths.

Imagine that commercial as a sitcom.

Fox did, and did it right. The Loop is a funny, irreverent tale of a young airline executive juggling a blossoming career and friends stuck in their teens.

Our hero, Sam, (actor Bret Harrison, guest roles as Charlie on That '70s Show) parties hardy with his pals, then scrambles to keep ahead of his workload on the job. It's a difficult time for young people, and Fox's sitcom gets it just right. There are some hilarious lines (especially in the second episode on Thursday) and love interests, and a mean, crazy boss. Sure, it's a silly sitcom, but it works.

Plus the theme song, Hockey Monkey by the Zambonis, flat out rocks.

The Loop, WTVT-Ch. 13, 9:30, then moves to its regular 8:30 p.m. slot Thursday. Grade: B+
