Film

Same story, different day

Here's another movie to check out.

She's the Man (PG-13) is either a Generation Why? updating of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, or a remake of the cheesy 1985 teen flick Just One of the Guys, which featured a song by Tampa musician Johnny G. Lyon.

This movie is a different verse, same as the first time a girl disguised herself as a boy to infiltrate a male locker room and secretly fell in love with a teammate, while his girlfriend fell for him/her. Got that? Good.

Teen queen Amanda Bynes (TV's What I Like About You) plays Viola, whose brother attends private school in London. When he skips school, she does a gender makeover to take his place in class and, more important, on the soccer team. Duke (Channing Tatum) is the hunk she covets while Olivia (Laura Ramsey) is attracted to Viola in drag. Names haven't been changed so that viewers can make the Shakespeare connection.

She's the Man was screened too late for Weekend review. Just One of the Guys is available on home video and occasional late-night cable.
