Judge Thomas to interview for appeals court

By Times Staff
Published March 21, 2006

INVERNESS - A local circuit judge has put her name in for an open spot in the 5th District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach.

Circuit Judge Patricia Thomas says her 12 years as a judge, plus her experience as a lawyer, make her a good candidate for the position.

"It seemed like a really good opportunity, and it seemed like the right time," she told a reporter Monday afternoon.

Thomas submitted her application March 13 for the opening, she said. She's scheduled to interview for the spot at 1 p.m. April 7.

There are 17 or 18 other applicants for the job, many of them from Orlando, she said.

She will interview before a Judicial Nominating Commission. The commission then sends recommendations to the governor for selection.
