Couple report finding strange object in soy milk

By Times Staff Writer
Published March 23, 2006

WEEKI WACHEE - Anne Shepherd was pouring her vanilla Silk brand soy milk into a bowl Monday afternoon when she found an object floating in the non-dairy liquid.

Shepherd and her husband, John Shepherd, reported it to the Hernando Sheriff's Office. No one knows what the object is - not the Shepherds, not the Sheriff's Office, not the Winn-Dixie at 6270 Commercial Way, where the milk was bought. The Sheriff's Office said it is an irregularly shaped object, smaller than a dime, with a dark center and a pink, flesh-colored material surrounding it. The store has removed that brand of soy milk from its shelf while it investigates, a Winn-Dixie spokesman Dennis Wortham said. He said the store had just found out about the complaint Wednesday afternoon. The Food and Drug Administration's consumer complaint department was also notified. Last week, a Publix store in Spring Hill pulled four containers of Minute Maid Fruit Punch after a woman said she found a medicine capsule in the drink.
