Centro-matic transcends genres with gentle ballads and raucous anthems that fans of rock, punk and country can connect to.

The Denton, Texas, quartet - singer and guitarist Will Johnson, drummer Matt Pence, bassist Mark Hedman, and piano and violin player Scott Danbom - has played in Tampa several times in various lineups and incarnations.

The band plays Sunday at New World Brewery in Ybor City.

"It's always been a real comfortable place to play, living room-like in the best of ways," Johnson says.

The show will feature songs from Centro-matic's new CD, Fort Recovery, just released on Misra records. The release has received favorable reviews from critics.

Centro-matic, with Great Lake Swimmers, New Roman Times and Nessie, performs at 8 p.m. Sunday at New World Brewery, 1313 E Eighth Ave., Ybor City. $8. (813) 248-4969.
