Zoning

Foundation seeks change for stores, offices

SEFFNER: The Jaeb Foundation is asking to rezone 5 acres on the northeast corner of County Road 579 and Old Hillsborough Avenue to make way for stores and office space.

Lorena Jaeb and Robert Jaeb, her late husband, have donated millions to local causes, including a theater at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and an expanded library and student center at the University of Tampa.

The foundation wants to turn the property from residential use to a planned development and to convert an existing house into an office for the foundation. Long-term plans include 5,000 square feet for retail stores and another 5,000 square feet for offices. The proposal went before a zoning hearing master on March 14 and goes to the County Commission on April 25. PETITION 06-0116

MANGO: Add another 80 townhomes to this growing pocket of eastern Hillsborough County, if a zoning request goes through. Property owners Robert and Marie Pound want to rezone property west of Falkenburg Road, between E Ellicott Street and Wilder Avenue, from agricultural to a planned development.

Traffic would empty onto E Ellicott Street and Falkenburg Road. The request goes to a zoning hearing master on May 1 and to the County Commission on June 13. (PETITION 06-0717)

BRANDON: The owner of a veterinary clinic wants to rezone 1 acre south of Bloomingdale Avenue and east of Holland Drive. Veterinarian Richard Kane, owner of Care Animal Hospital on E Bloomingdale Avenue, seeks a change from agricultural and residential zoning to a professional office.

Carl Mitchell, a consultant representing Kane before the zoning hearing master in February, said Kane wants to operate a "small-scale business" at the site but had not narrowed his plans beyond that. The request goes to the County Commission on April 11. (PETITION 06-0479)

BRANDON: Owner Deborah Childers has filed a request to change the zoning at 1115 N Parsons Ave. from residential to a planned development. A house has occupied the site, but the planned development could create room for office space, residential or a combination. The request goes to a zoning hearing master on May 1, and to the County Commission on June 13. (PETITION 06-0700)
