Ban on gay marriage approved for ballot

Associated Press
Published March 24, 2006

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously approved for the 2008 ballot a citizen initiative that would put a ban on same-sex marriages in the Florida Constitution.

The ruling means the court found that the measure sticks to a single subject and that the proposed ballot language is clear and not misleading.

Backers had hoped to send the initiative to voters this year but missed a petition deadline.
