New Port Richey man identified in drowning

By Times Staff Writer

NEW PORT RICHEY - Police identified a man Friday who drowned at Grand Boulevard Park on Wednesday.

Len McDanold, 64, of 5905 Pine Hill Road was found floating in the river by a resident who called police at 11:30 a.m., said Capt. Darryl Garman of the New Port Richey Police Department. He was fully clothed, including tennis shoes, and had a wallet.

A preliminary autopsy this week indicated that McDanold drowned, Garman said. Police withheld McDanold's name until they were able to find his brother.

Garman said the investigation remained open, and police were waiting for toxicology reports from the medical examiner before getting a ruling to determine McDanold's cause of death.
