Baseball/softball

SOFTBALL SIGNUPS: The New Tampa Spirit is looking for experienced softball players 12 and older to join the team. For registration and schedule information, call 813 977-8094.

BOWLING

BLAZESPORTS BOWLING: BlazeSports Tampa Bay, an organization to help athletes with disabilities, will host a bowling bonanza at 1 p.m. Saturday at Terrace Sports, Skate and Bowl, 5311 Busch Blvd. E. Registration is $15 and includes three games of cosmic bowling, shoe rental and a hot dog, french fries and soda. Players may register on a four-player team or as individuals. Call (813) 744-5307.

FENCING

FENCING CLASSES: Tampa Bay Fencers Inc. is offering fencing classes for foil, epee and saber. Anyone interested in swordplay is welcome to watch open sessions or call to request a free introductory class. Sessions are Mondays and Thursdays at the Northdale Recreation Center from 7-9 p.m. Call (813) 787-4526.

Fitness

CHILDREN'S FITNESS: In response to the obesity problem affecting many children, the Carrollwood Recreation Center is offering fitness and self-defense classes for children as young as 5. The martial arts-based fitness program teaches the importance of fitness, nutrition and personal safety. The cost is $8 per session, and scholarships are available. The recreation center is at 3515 McFarland Road, across from Carrollwood Elementary School. The Martial Arts Center also offers self-defense seminars at no cost to nonprofit groups and organizations. Golf

TOURNAMENT: The Carrollwood Community Bar Association is hosting its fifth annual Charity Courthouse Scramble on April 28 at the Northdale Golf and Tennis Club, 4417 Northdale Blvd. Proceeds will benefit All Sports Community Service's scholarship fund and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Registration is $100 and includes tournament, green fees, lunch, food, drinks and an awards dinner. Sponsorships are also available. Call (813) 468-5987.

WESTCHASE BENEFIT: The Bay West Real Estate Golf Classic will be April 3 at the Westchase Golf Club, 11602 Westchase Golf Drive. Hole sponsorship is $100, and donations are needed for auctions. Call (813) 792-7396

Swimming

SWIM GROUP: The Berkeley Barracuda Master Swim Group is accepting enrollment for swimmers ages 18 and up. The group meets at Berkeley Preparatory School's Catonis Pool at 4811 Kelly Road on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8 a.m., and Saturdays from 8-9 a.m. Call (813) 885-1673.

TRIATHLON SWIM CLINIC: TriFloyd will host an open water swim every Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the Courtney Campbell Parkway. The cost is $7 per session. This clinic is designed for triathletes seeking to increase their performance during the season, and will include a stretch session, strength session, navigation orientation, warmup, 15 minutes of skills and drills, and assigned distance. Bring a swim cap, swimsuit, wet suit, goggles, sunscreen, hat, two water bottles and a banana or energy bar to eat on the way home. Call (813) 977-1585.
