By TIMES STAFF WRITER
Published March 28, 2006

The city of St. Petersburg is accepting nominations for its 24th Annual Senior Hall of Fame. This honors senior citizens for outstanding contributions of time and talent to the community.

The city's Office on Aging sponsors the annual recognition and is accepting the nominations until April 5 at the Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N, or the Azalea Recreation Center, 1600 72nd St. N.

Nominees must be age 65 or older, a year-round resident of Pinellas County for more than three years and provide a community service that benefits the quality of life for residents of St. Petersburg.

Individuals or organizations making nominations should submit an application on a plain sheet of paper printed with the nominee's name, address, phone, birth date and a 200-word summary of the reason for nomination. Those who nominate someone else should include their own name, address and phone number.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Sunshine Center on May 17 at 1 p.m. At this ceremony, all nominees will be honored with a program consisting of entertainment, refreshments and a brief introduction of their service contributions. The 10 inductees to the Senior Hall of Fame receive flowers, prizes, a certificate and a key to the city presented by Mayor Rick Baker at a televised City Council meeting.

Applications are available at the Sunshine Center or Azalea Center and should be returned to: Senior Hall of Fame, Azalea Recreation Center, 1600 72nd St. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710. Call (727) 893-7150 for more information or to receive an application by mail.
