The Pinellas County School Board will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the district administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW, Largo.

The public is invited to attend. Anyone wishing to speak on either agenda or nonagenda items can do so by filling out a form at or before the meeting.

Citizens may speak about any item on the agenda not involving a hearing on employee discipline by registering five minutes before the item is introduced.

The meeting will be televised at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays for two weeks following the meeting date. All broadcasts are shown on WPDS-Ch. 14, which also appears on Knology Ch. 14 and Bright House Networks Ch. 14.

The St. Petersburg branch of the NAACP, in cooperation with Pinellas County Schools, will host a community forum titled Education: Who Cares? from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 8 at John Hopkins Middle School, 701 16th St. S, St. Petersburg.

The forum is open to the public, and parents and students are invited to discuss methods to help kids succeed in school. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. For information, call Cliff Burney, chairman of the education committee, at 898-3310.

Northside Christian School, 7777 62nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg, will hold an open house at 7 p.m. April 13 for prospective kindergarten through grade 12 students. The deadline to apply for the Bright House Networks Volunteer Youth Awards is April 7. The program is designed to honor students throughout the seven counties served by Bright House Networks Tampa division.

To be eligible, students in grades 9-12 must have participated in 50 volunteer hours or more throughout the last year, while maintaining a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Twelve winners will each receive $500 in U.S. Savings Bonds, a laptop computer and a certificate of merit. Eight winners will each receive $250 in U.S. Savings Bonds and a certificate of merit.

Gannett Foundation/Tampa Bay 10 News will provide 10 needs-based scholarships to high school students to attend the Poynter Institute's High School Journalism Program, June 4-14. Additionally, students will return to Poynter for workshops one Tuesday evening each month during the 2006-07 school year.

Scholarships will cover the $125 tuition and all materials. Seminars will be given on writing, photojournalism, page design and journalism ethics.

The scholarships are open to rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, who live in the Tampa Bay area. Admission is limited to 35 students and the deadline to apply for the program and the scholarships is Friday. For information, visit the Web site at www.poynter.org/highschool2006 or call 821-9494.
