COACHING CAREER: This is his first major-league coaching position. ... Spent past six seasons as pitching coach in the Angels' minor-league system.

COACHING CAREER: Moves to the major leagues after 30 years in professional baseball, 19 as a manager (the past 10 in the Rays system). ... Managed Triple-A Durham the past eight seasons, qualifying for the postseason six times. ... Led Durham to back-to-back Governor's Cup championships in '02 and '03.

Served a major-league coach for the Astros from 1994-96.

COACHING CAREER: Was Dodgers Triple-A hitting coach in Las Vegas in 2003 and '04 and spent last season as the Dodgers' minor-league hitting coordinator. ...
