Fuel spill diverts traffic

By Times Staff
Published April 3, 2006

Westbound Ulmerton Road was closed early Monday morning at Roosevelt Boulevard after an accident with injuries at Interstate 275, according to authorities.

The accident was reported shortly after 5 a.m., and officials indicated they planned to divert traffic onto 118th Avenue N. The Interstate 275 westbound exit will be closed until further notice, DOT officials said. The Florida Highway Patrol is advising motorists to use the westbound Roosevelt Boulevard exit instead.

Eastbound lanes of Ulmerton Road remained open, according to authorities.

The trouble started when two semi-trucks collided on Ulmerton, spilling as much as 300 gallons of diesel fuel onto the road.
