Vandy hands Gators a humbling home loss

GAINESVILLE - Alex Feinberg had three hits and four RBIs to help Vanderbilt to a 16-2 victory Sunday over Florida, the Gators' worst SEC home loss since 1990.

Vanderbilt's Dominic de la Osa hit a two-run home run for the team in the first inning. Five runs in the fourth inning and another seven in the fifth helped seal the win for Vanderbilt (19-9, 7-2).

Florida (19-13,3-6) managed just two runs in the sixth inning.

Vanderbilt's Cody Crowell (4-0) pitched seven innings to get the win. David Hurst (1-1) took the loss for Florida.

CINCINNATI 11, USF 10: Mark Muscenti's walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the host Bearcats over the Bulls. Brandin Daniel went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs for USF (14-15, 5-4 Big East).

STETSON 5, VERMONT 3: Jake Hitchcock pitched six strong innings in his first collegiate start as the host Hatters (16-14) completed a three-game sweep.

MARSHALL 6, UCF 5: The host Thundering Herd rallied with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Golden Knights. Ryan Bono was 4-for-4 with a run scored for UCF (18-13, 2-1 C-USA).

Softball

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Florida completed a season sweep of host Mississippi State with a 2-1 victory behind Kristin Butler's solo home run and an RBI double by junior Melissa Zick (Chamberlain). Stacey Stevens got the win as the Gators improved to 31-12, 10-5 in the SEC.

S. MISSISSIPPI 2, UCF 1: Allison Kime (9-11) took the loss as the visiting Golden Knights fell to 13-26, 0-12 C-USA.

FSU 7, GEORGIA TECH 4: The host Seminoles (27-17, 5-4 SEC) scored three runs over the final two innings to defeat the Bulldogs.

USF 2-3, ST. JOHN'S 0-2: Carly Griffin hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th of the second game as the Bulls swept a doubleheader. In the first game, Bree Spence pitched 62/3 scoreless innings for USF (32-18, 4-0 Big East).

GOLF: Florida State won the Florida Women's Collegiate Championship in Miami Lakes with an 893. Rollins was six shots back at 899, followed by USF at 907. FSU's Jaclyn Burch tied for second individually with teammate Caroline Westrup and Ashley Greir of UCF, which finished seventh overall. Christiana Jones of USF tied for fifth individually at 224, three shots behind medalist Charlotte Campbell of Rollins. ... The Florida women placed sixth at the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summitt, N.C., shooting a final-round 293 to finish at 36-over 900. Sandra Gal shot 2-under 70 to finish tied for 13th individually at 6-over 222 for the Gators. Georgia won the tournament at 11-over 875.

TENNIS: Becky Gordon (Chamberlain) had her win streak snapped at six in UCF's 5-2 loss at Louisville. Gordon lost in three sets to Natalia Baez, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 as the Golden Knights dropped to 10-8. ... The Florida women (15-1, 8-0 SEC) won their ninth straight match, blanking host Auburn 7-0. ... The Florida men (11-6, 5-3 SEC) edged host Auburn 4-3.

FOOTBALL: Today's Florida spring practice has been rescheduled due to coach Urban Meyer attending the NCAA basketball national championship game between Florida and UCLA in Indianapolis. Florida will hold practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday this week.
