Weatherford, defense impressive

Despite working without his starting wideouts, FSU quarterback Drew Weatherford was 6-of-7 for 79 yards Wednesday and still has not thrown an interception in any scrimmage or half-scrimmage.
Lawrence Timmons and Buster Davis each had four tackles (two for loss), and Roger Williams added four tackles to lead the defense.
The Garnet & Gold game is at 2 p.m. Saturday.

OBITUARY: Walter Rabb, the winningest UNC baseball coach in school history who guided the Tar Heels to four conference titles during a 31-year career, died at 91.WOODEN "DOING WELL': John Wooden, who coached UCLA to 10 national basketball championships, is "doing well" after his release from a Los Angeles-area hospital, said athletic spokesman Marc Dellins. Wooden, 95, had inflammation around his colon.
