Dunphy hops to Temple

PHILADELPHIA - Fran Dunphy took over Monday for Hall of Fame coach John Chaney at Temple, moving a few miles across town after guiding Penn to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
Dunphy, 57, won 10 Ivy League championships and three Big 5 city series titles. He was 310-163 in 17 seasons at Penn.
"I've got a chance to be reborn again," Dunphy said.
Penn is one of only two schools that won its conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament nine times since the 1992-93 season. This season, the Quakers lost to Texas in the first round.
OTHER HIRES: Hofstra assistant Tom Parrotta was named coach at Canisus. ... Middle Tennessee assistant Donnie Tyndall was hired at Morehead State, his alma mater. ... Portland tabbed Stanford assistant Eric Reveno. The Pilots went 11-18 this season.

SSC TOURNAMENT: The Eckerd men were tied for fourth at 610, 12 strokes behind leader Lynn, after 36 holes at the Sunshine State Conference championships at Lake Jovita. Saint Leo (613) was seventh and Tampa (627) last in the nine-team field. UT's Garrett Engel (151) was tied for ninth.
In the women's tournament, also at Lake Jovita, Saint Leo (714) was last of seven teams, 106 shots behind leader Rollins. Angie Sparagowski (168) was 22nd, best among the Lions.
ELSEWHERE: The Florida men shot 1-under-par 575 on the first day of the U.S. Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia in Atlanta and was second, a stroke behind Clemson, after 36 holes. Gators senior Matt Every (140) was tied for second. Florida State (605) was tied for last in the 13-team field, led by Jonas Blixt at 142. ... The South Florida men were tied for 12th after 36 holes at the Arkansas State Indian Classic. The Bulls shot 610, 22 strokes behind leader Missouri State in the 15-team event.
