ST. PETERSBURG - Latifa B. Brown, a 14-year-old girl who was missing from her home for more than a month, has been found safe.

Latifa was featured Monday in the St. Petersburg Times and tbt* in an article about the large number of missing children who do not qualify for Amber Alerts. On Monday night her mother Frances Bentley got a call from someone who said he knew where Latifa was. Armed with that information, Bentley called police and met with an officer. They found the girl near the corner of 18th Avenue S. and 34th Street. Latifa had run away and said she did not want to go home. She was taken to the Pinellas County Juvenile Detention Center because she had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.

Even though her daughter is not yet in her house, Bentley was ecstatic to learn the teen was safe.

"Oh I just can't believe it," she said Tuesday. "I'm just so happy."
