Bayshore-Howard crossing signal now activated
OLD HYDE PARK - Crossing Bayshore Boulevard just got a little safer.
The new pedestrian signal at Bayshore and Howard Avenue went into operation Monday. Motorists traveling north on Bayshore now get a red light when someone activates the pedestrian crossing button.
The new signal is meant to improve safety and create a pedestrian-friendly environment along Bayshore.
The intersection improvements included countdown pedestrian signals, signal-ahead warning flashers, new pavement markings and enhanced pedestrian crosswalks.
The city project began in November and cost $53,000. The Community Investment Tax provided funding.
