Stuck tractor-trailer causes traffic delay

By Times Staff
Published April 18, 2006

TAMPA - A tractor-trailer swerving to avoid a car wedged itself into the overhang of the Franklin Exchange Building Monday afternoon, prompting police to close two lanes on N Florida Avenue at E Twiggs Street briefly during rush hour.

The driver of the car, Thai Van Ho, 26, of Lehigh Acres, was taken to Tampa General Hospital after the 3:15 p.m. crash.

Ho attempted to turn left from the center lane when he pulled into the path of the tractor-trailer, causing a collision, police said. The street was reopened around 5 p.m.

Ho was in good condition late Monday and was expected to be released from the emergency room.

Thief abandons car with 8-month-old baby

ST. PETERSBURG - A woman who left her 8-month-old baby in her car Saturday night while she ran into her apartment for a can of formula returned seconds later to find her car and baby gone, police said.

But within minutes police spotted the car abandoned in the 6400 block of 31st St. S.

The thief apparently ditched the car after discovering the baby, said police spokesman George Kajtsa.

The mother, Janteya Gibson, said Monday it was the most horrible experience of her life.

"I didn't know when I was going to get my baby back," she said at her home at PalmView Apartments, 5420 26th St.
