DENVER - Chris Young pitched seven strong innings and added a run-scoring double, and Josh Barfield hit his first career homer for San Diego.

Young allowed two runs and five hits to win his second straight start after coming to the Padres in a six-player trade from Texas in the offseason.

Barfield hit his homer to the deepest part of Coors Field in the first inning, putting him 240 behind his father, former AL home run champ Jesse Barfield.

Young struck out four and walked two. He has allowed six earned runs in 181/3 innings.

Trevor Hoffman pitched the ninth for his second save.

Third baseman Garrett Atkins homered and drove in both of Colorado's runs, but had two errors leading to the Rockies' fifth loss in seven home games.

NOTABLE: The Rockies scored the most runs at San Diego's Petco Park (32) in a three-game series to sweep the Padres last week. They haven't had much success since returning to Coors. The team is 5-1 with 47 runs on the road, but has just 30 runs at home.
