Visitors bureau reaches milestone

HOMOSASSA - The Citrus County Visitors and Convention Bureau will celebrate its first anniversary of working from the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 10 at the Fishbowl Drive office location.

Citrus County tourism business representatives are invited to participate in the celebration and the kickoff of National Tourism Week.

The goal of the visitors bureau, in conjunction with the Tourist Development Council, is to partner with tourism-related businesses to draw visitors to the Citrus County area. The bureau is hosting this celebration so that the tourism community can see how it operates and to encourage partnerships among these businesses.

In recognition of travel and tourism's tremendous economic, social and cultural impact in Florida and Citrus, the bureau also plans to also kick off the local observation of Florida's National Tourism Week.

Last year, approximately 79.7-million visitors came to Florida to enjoy the many attributes of the Sunshine State and generated more than $57-billion to boost Florida's economy.

"Dollars spent by travelers enhance our community," said Mary Craven, Citrus County's tourism development manager. The anniversary celebration will be supported by a variety of local business partners. For information, call 628-9305.
